Juliette Binos is the new president of the European Film Academy

Oscar-winning French actress Juliette Binos takes over her presidency. It is noted that Ingmar Bergman was the first president to be originally selected by the 40 founding members of the Film Academy in 1989. Vim Wenders succeeded the Swedish director in 1996 and served until 2020, while Holland followed, who became the first female president until he decided to resign. “I am not a man who will easily back off, but I have come to the conclusion that I am first of all a director. And that’s what I want to focus on in the coming years… for me, it’s time for me to leave,” Agnieska Holland notes. “Knowing that Juliette Binos is willing to take the baton strengthens my feeling that this is a decision made at the right time. I could not wish for a better successor, since it represents European cinema so strongly and convincingly throughout its impressive career.” According to Variety, the French star begins her honorable new role officially on 1 May after her nomination was unanimously approved by the Academy members. The actress recently starred in the drama film “The Taste of Things” which in Cannes won the Best Direction Award for Tran Ann Hung while playing Coco Chanel in the AppleTV+ miniseries “The New Look”.
