Hospital doctors threaten to appeal to Justice for “illegal” afternoon surgeries at the Athens Ophthalmiatry

By judicial action against the administration of the Ophthalmiatry of Athens for “illegal” afternoons and against all officials threaten . “illegal” characterizes the afternoon surgeries expected to take place today, Wednesday (27.03. 24) at the Ophthalmiatry Athens the Federation of Associations of Hospital Doctors of Greece (OENGE). As hospital doctors say, they will resort to justice and declare afternoon surgery illegally, as they were planned without prior recommendation by the hospital’s competent services. Specifically, today the first 5 afternoons – paid – surgery at the Athens Ophthalmiatry, which are all planned and expected to be held for the treatment of cataracts. This is an operation, which is first in demand and has the biggest waiting in this hospital. However, according to OENGE, surgery is not only performed without the recommendation from the surgery committee, but also the only anesthesiologist to attend the afternoon surgery is the only one on duty at the hospital, and this under the law is prohibited, as she should be on the lookout for emergencies. Please note that 3 anesthesiologists are working at the Athens Ophthalmiatry, one of which has declared participation in afternoon surgeries and according to the on-call program today. Wednesday 27/3 you have routed to your unit the start of “evening” paid surgery without recommendation from the surgery committee (as required by the relevant KYA) and with the involved Anesthesiologist in tomorrow’s on-call program (something explicitly forbidden by the relevant CYA).
