Amit Susana, a 40-year-old Israeli lawyer, was kidnapped from her residence in kibbutz Kfar Aza on October 7 during Hamas attack on southern Israel. In a long interview with the American newspaper New York Times, according to which she is the first Israeli to talk about the matter, and the humiliation she suffered during her captivity. This interview became a first topic today in Israeli newspapers, some of which devote them several pages. “This is a terrible testimony, it is an alarm signal, an appeal to the world to act, to do everything it can and to put pressure on Hamas to release our hostages”, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, a representative of the Israeli army said yesterday, Tuesday. “Amit Susana speaks on behalf of all the victims of the petty crimes and sexual assaults of Hamas (…) all women around the world”, said Israeli president Isaac Herchog, in X. Amit Susana said she was kidnapped from her residence, beaten and forced to Gaza by at least ten men, among whom some were armed. Several days after her captivity, she said, one of her kidnappers began asking her questions about her sex life. She was kept alone in a children’s room chained to her left ankle. Around October 24, her jailer, called Muhammad, removed her chain and left her in a bath. Later, he dragged her, at gunpoint, into a room, “then forced me, with a gun to my head, to commit a sexual act,” added Ms. Susana. She was released on November 30. About 250 people were kidnapped on October 7 in Israel and 130 of them are still being held hostage in Gaza, 34 of whom are dead, according to the Israeli authorities. A UN report published in early March mentioned sexual violence committed by Hamas members during the October 7 attack, which led to the death of at least 1,160 people in Israel, the majority of civilians. Please note that Hamas denies the charges.
