Gaza Strip: European Parliament by its resolution calls on Israel to facilitate humanitarian aid

The European Parliament calls on Israel to immediately allow and facilitate the full delivery of assistance through all existing transit points, stressing the urgent need for rapid, secure and seamless access to humanitarian aid. The resolution was adopted by 372 votes in favour, 44 against and 120 abstentions. In addition, MEPs reiterate their call for immediate and permanent ceasefire to address the apparent risk of mass starvation in the Gaza Strip and for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages. The International Red Cross should be given direct access to all Israeli hostages in Gaza and provide them with medical care, they stress. The EP welcomes the maritime aid corridors to Gaza, but stresses that priority must be given to land deliveries. Noting the spread of diseases and confirmed deaths of children due to malnutrition and dehydration, MEPs urge the Israeli authorities to open the Rafa, Kerem Salom, Carmi and Erez crossing points. They also recognise the necessary role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) in the region. “Stop attacks on humanitarian missions” MEPs strongly condemn the obstruction of humanitarian aid and the attacks on humanitarian missions, including piracy and looting of Hamas missions. They also strongly condemn repeated attacks on civilians seeking assistance, humanitarian and medical facilities and workers. They deplore their devastating effects on civilians in Gaza, especially children, call on all parties to stop these attacks immediately and demand independent international investigation. There is no prospect of peace with Hamas – Parliament condemns the increase in extremist violence by settlers There can be no prospect of peace, security, stability and prosperity in Gaza or of reconciliation of Palestine and Israel, MEPs warn as long as Hamas and other terrorist organisations play any role in Gaza. Parliament strongly condemns the increase in extremist violence by settlers and the attacks by Israel’s armed forces against Palestinians on the West Bank, which have already caused the death of hundreds and the injury of thousands of Palestinian civilians. MEPs also condemn the acceleration of the illegal settlement of Palestinian land, which is a violation of international law, expressing deep concern at the risk of escalation of the conflict, especially in Lebanon.
