ELSTAT for Health Centres: Doctors down, nurses and machinery increased.

The annual Census Survey of the Healings and for 2022 the (ELSTAT) gave publicity. According to ELSTAT, there was a reduction in 2022 in the number of doctors employed in the Health Centers compared to 2021. On the contrary, nursing staff increased in 2022 compared to 2021, while a significant increase is also found in the medical equipment available to the Health Centers throughout the country. The total number of Health Centres in 2022 amounted to 311. See briefly the figures in the ELSTAT table: The above data is included in the recent study of the Greek Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) regarding the Inventory of Primary Health Care Units and the annual Census of Treatment Research, year 2022. From the comparison of health centres data in recent years 2021-2022 the following is observed: Health Centers: Doctors The number of medical staff employed in the Health Centers showed a 4.3% reduction in 2022 compared to 2021 in the whole of the country. An increase is observed in 2022 compared to 2021 in the regions of Thessaly and Peloponnese by 9.9% and 4.4%, respectively. On the contrary, reductions were observed in most regions in 2022 compared with 2021, with greater reductions in the Western Macedonia and Central Greece regions by 12.2% and 8.2% respectively (Table 5). Health Centers: Nurses Hospital staff increased in 2022 compared to 2021 by 3.0% in the whole of the country. An increase is observed in 2022 compared to 2021 in almost all regions, with more important in the Peloponnese and Ionian Islands regions with 11.2% and 9.3%, respectively. On the contrary, a reduction was observed in the South Aegean Region by 9.8% (Table 6). The staff of other health centres experienced a reduction in 2022 compared to 2021 by 1.2% in the whole of the country. A more significant increase is observed in 2022 than in 2021 in the regions of Crete and the North Aegean by 15.8% and 6.7% respectively. On the contrary, reductions were observed mainly in the regions of Western Macedonia and Central Greece by 23.3% and 6.8% , respectively Medical machines In the medical equipment available to the Health Centers in the whole of the country in 2022 compared to 2021 by 3.3% In summary, the picture is as follows: Primary Structures: Distribution by Health District The total number of Health Centres in 2022 amounted to 311. From the distribution of Health Centres in the 13 regions of the country, it is noted that most Health Centres are located in Attica (57 centres), Central Macedonia (46 centres), Peloponnese (30 centres) and Western Greece (29 centres), while the least are located in the North Aegean (10 centres) and Western Macedonia (11 centres) (Graph 2). Table 1 shows all primary health care facilities for the year 2022. In addition, Primary Health Care includes mental health services structures, which appear with three different types (Table 2). Table 3 shows the number of workers in the Health Centers, Local Medical Centers, Regional Medical Institutes (multivalent and special) and T.M.Y. for the year 2022, by Health District (Y.P.). ELSTAT for Treatments: What evidence of doctors and I.S.A. workers shows At the same time ETATA gave the publicity and “radiography” of the clinics in Greece for the year 2022. As shown in 2022, the highest percentage (51.7%) of treatment facilities were private. The number of clinics in the four years 2019-2022 decreased by 1.9%. In 2022: 64.9% of the clinics were General, 31.7% Special specialties (Pathology, Neuropsychiatrics, Anticancers, Ophthalmological, Obstetrics- Gynaecological, Paediatric and Other Specialties) 3.4% Mixed. The largest proportion of Special Treatments are Neuropsychiatrics (16.2%) and follow Obstetrics-Feminiology (4.9%). Increase in staff at the Treatment Centers In the four years 2019-2022 an increase of 8.2% was observed in the number of Medical Staff employed in the treatment rooms under permanent work status (full time), while in the year 2022 compared to 2021 the increase was 1.7%. Also, in the four years 2019-2022 an increase of 9.5% was observed in the Nursing Personnel, 7.2% in Paramedical Personnel (technical laboratories and laboratory assistants, radiologists, operators-appearers, physiotherapists, therapists, speech therapists) and 13.8% in the Auxiliary Nursing Staff of the hospitals (chamber assistants, paramedics, other auxiliary specialities). According to the data, in 2022 the highest rate of nursing (56.0%) and auxiliary (11.0%) staff is observed in Private Clinics. The highest rate of medical (31.4%) and paramedic (10.2%) staff is observed in the Legal Persons of Public Law. Distribution in the 13 regions of the country As regards the percentage distribution of hospitals in the 13 regions of the country, in 2022 most hospitals ( 33.6%) were located in the Region of Attica, with the latter in the Central Macedonia Region (15.5%) and the third in Thessaly ( 11.7%). The smaller rate of hospitals was observed in the regions of the Ionian Islands, Epirus and North Aegean, where the clinics in total, in the three regions mentioned above, correspond to 7.5% of the whole of the country. The developed closed hospital beds in 2019-2022 showed a 50-bed decrease (0.1%). The year 2022 compared to 2021 saw a decrease of 326 beds (0.7%) . Open hospital beds (‘day beds’) in 2019-2022 increased by 312 (8.5%). In the year 2022 compared to 2021 the increase was 198 beds (5.2%). In 2022, the majority of beds (68.0%) are located in hospitals with a legal status of Public Law, followed by Private Clinics (30.1%).
