Dombrovskis: The government chose to increase taxes

“During our negotiations with the Greek government, stressed that the reductions in spending would affect less…
development of the tax increases, which have been chosen by the Greek government and we had a number of studies that support this argument. In the end, however, the Greek authorities have to decide the measures. The Greek government had a strong preference to increase taxes and not to reduce costs”.
The above reports, the vice-president of the european Commission, Valdis Dombrovskis, in an interview with the ‘Daily’ on Sunday commenting on the negotiation of the last package of measures.
The Dombrovskis clarifies that the medium-and long-term measures for the debt would not have been completed by the Eurogroup meeting of 24 May.
Stresses, however, that the european institutions detaches the agreement on debt by the completion of the evaluation.
Clarifies, at the same time, how to ensure the participation of the IMF in the program, requires a roadmap to debt relief.
Finally, it stresses that the economic instability caused the first half of 2015 had a negative impact on the Greek economy.
“Now we see that the fiscal adjustment required is much greater than that if he closed successfully the second assessment”, concludes.
