Women are better at writing computer code

The computer code that is written by women takes the best “reviews” of him written by men – but only if their gender is not known, according to a new study.
As stated in an article in the BBC, American researchers analyzed approximately 1.4 million. users in the open source sharing service programmes Github.
As it was found, proposals for changes (pull requests) to a code made of women were more likely to be accepted than those from men.
The relevant paper awaits peer review – i.e., review by other specialists, in order to assess.
The researchers, from the departments of computer science from Cal Poly and North Carolina State University, explored about 4 million. users who did login to the Github within a day (1 April 2015).
It is noted that the Github, which is used widely by Internet users, does not require a declaration of gender from the 12 million. users.
However, the team was able to determine if 1.4 million. were men or women, either because it was clear from the profile, either because the email addresses could be assigned with accounts in social networks.
As it was found, 78,6% of the pull requests from women were accepted, while for men the rate was 74.6 per cent.
During the study taken into account various factors, such as whether women were more likely to respond to known issues, if the speeches were shorter and therefore easier to evaluate and which programming languages were used – however there seemed to be no connection.
However, a user that was not known particularly within the community, the profile of which showed clearly that they were women, had much lower “index of acceptance” of the cases in which gender was not known.
According to the paper, the acceptance rates were 71,8% when the profile was “neutral”, falling to 62.5 per cent when the sex could be established. There was a corresponding fall, and in men, but not so great.
Therefore, in the paper it is concluded that, although the women at Github, they seem more capable, there is prejudice/ discrimination against them.
