Weather – African dust: When the phenomenon subsides, new wave from Sunday

Stifling is the present in most of the country, as it has created a dangerous and potentially toxic cocktail. Meteorologists note that the phenomenon will retreat this afternoon, but it will come back on Sunday. The meteorologist of ERT, Panagiotis Giannopoulos, noted that the African dust that has accumulated in the atmosphere causes several problems for the citizens, while the images from the sky of Greece recorded by NASA’s satellite are characteristic. “How much dust has there are stations that measure it,” Mr Giannopoulos told ERT about the dense dust from Africa covering a large part of the country. As he said in the day the dust will leave everywhere as the western winds expected will gradually drive it away. In fact, in the west the air has already cleared. “Even in the Ionian Sea Western winds have prevailed” he stressed while as he said the question is whether it will rain in Attica resulting in mud rain. African dust contains transferred particles which can be incorporated with pollen, bacteria and fungi creating a particularly toxic and dangerous mixture for the human body, pneumonologists stress. On Sunday, the phenomenon of Clearchos Marousakis notes that the phenomenon will retreat from the afternoon, but a new wave of African dust is expected to visit the country from Sunday. High temperatures and absence of rain will be the main elements of the next few days. According to Mr Marousakis “the intense episode of African dust is felt towards the southernmost parts of our country, towards the region of Crete. From this afternoon onwards, we expect a gradual retreat of this intense phenomenon of African dust.” Typical is that in Chania the temperature yesterday reached 33 degrees Celsius although the atmosphere was quite stifling due to increased concentration of African dust. The phenomena will retreat in several areas as the low barometer coming will bring northwest winds, which will shift the phenomenon to the east, Turkey and Cyprus. Since this afternoon the phenomenon of African dust has been declining, but it will return from Sunday and Monday with less intensity.
