A few words about the history of the miraculous image
2ND Virgin Προυσιώτισσα (celebrated on 22 – 23 August) stands in a surprisingly beautiful landscape with απόκρυμνους rocks to the south of the Prefecture of Evritania.
The chapel of the monastery founded in the 9ομ.X. century, in the time of Theophilus – Byzantine Emperor. The present church was built in 1754 on the ruins of two earlier churches that had been rebuilt in the same spot.
In a cave cut, that accommodates in the interior of the first and the old church of the monastery, the main church, is the chapel where it is kept the miraculous icon of Panagia Prousiotissa.
The legend around the icon of Panagia Prousiotissa wants in the years of iconoclasm(829) received a lord, who was going to take you to Greece for safety. But when it arrived in Gallipoli, he lost the picture, which went miraculously to the point where it is today, the monastery of Prousos. The fact he didn’t take long to spread. Didn’t take long to reach the ears of the lord who moved it. He ran excited, did he i. d. became a monk, while he is considered the first founder of the holy monastery.
