The Pentagon calls on hackers to… hack

The american Pentagon announced Wednesday that it will be called “accredited” external hacker to…
test the cyber security of some websites, in the context of a pilot programme next month, in the first program of this kind on the part of the american government.
The “Hack the Pentagon” is in the standards of such accounts, known as “bug bounties”, which are carried out by large american companies, with the purpose of finding security gaps in their networks. These programs allow experts κυβερνοασφαλείας to find and show problems before malicious hackers exploit them.
“I am confident that this innovative initiative will strengthen our digital defence and will enhance our national security,” said the secretary of Defense, Ash Carter, in the context of the presentation of the pilot program.
A senior official in the field of defence said that thousands are expected to demonstrate their interest, while it is still ongoing work on the determination of the rules – however, the contest will include cash prizes.
The Pentagon a long time testing their networks through internal “red teams”, but this initiative could open some of the systems in “κυβερνοπροκλήσεις” from sources of the industry and the academic sector.
Participants must be u.s. citizens and must pass a series of checks before being released to act on a predetermined system – as pointed out it will not be possible the access to more sensitive networks, or particularly important projects of weapons – at least, initially.
