The action will be done under the supervision of the forest service of Thessaloniki. The nests are built by the community of ΙΘΑΚΗΣ with the guidance of the Hellenic Ornithological society. The nests are built from wood so as to be adapted to the environment and the purpose of the placement is to encourage the nesting insectivorous birds. They have dimensions suitable for tits, καλόγηÏους, τσοπανάκους and either expected to nest.
The forest of Sheikh sou is derived from reforestation with conifers, mainly pine trees. The byzantine period in the region there was an extensive oak forest. The pine trees are not suitable for the nesting of birds and this is a limiting factor for their populations. The installation of artificial nests is a successful practice which has been applied in other areas. The reproductive success will follow on after the Ornithological society and the University of Thessaloniki.
The placement will be done in clusters to the east of the road leading to the Filippeio.
