New major environmental initiative on the highway Elefsina – Corinth – Patras – Tower

The largest photovoltaic park program on a highway in Greece. 17 photovoltaic parks along the highway with a production power of 9.5MWp. On the Elefsina-Corinth motorway- Patras – Tower will soon be the largest photovoltaic park program developed on a highway in the country. A total of 17 photovoltaic parks will be installed in roofs and parking spaces of the highway maintenance centres, to toll station shelters and untapped spaces near buildings and tunnels within the Concession Project. PV parks along the highway will reach a productive power of about 9.5MWp, equivalent to the annual consumption of more than 1,000 inhabitants/time and will reduce gas emissions by 5,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent annually. The first phase of the program was assigned to Omexom Hellas (VINCI Energies). Work is under way and the first units in Rio and Kiato will be operational in the coming weeks. This first phase of the program will be completed by autumn. A second development phase was assigned to IXION Energy (VAX) and is already under study. With this comprehensive plan, the goal of achieving the energy self-sufficiency of the highway at 100% will be achieved by the end of 2025. Panayiotis Papanikolas, Director of VINCI Concessions in Greece, President and CEO of the Olympian Road, said: “After the ambitious program of increasing electric chargers along the Elefsina highway, Corinth- Patras, which started recently, we are very proud to announce a new environmental project: the largest photovoltaic park program on a motorway in Greece. We are committed to showing environmental performance with a direct positive impact and contributing to the national carbonization goal. ” Based on the average footprint of European citizens
