Lily Allen: I love my kids but they ruined my career

British pop singer Lily Allen went on to make an uncomfortable statement, that her words “complete” her, but their birth“ completely destroyed” her. When asked on the Radio Times podcast whether she should review her career strategy after having children, Lily Allen replied: “I never really have a career strategy, but yes, my children ruined my career.” “I mean that I love them and they complement me, but as for the pop star, they completely destroyed it,” said Lily Allen jokingly during the interview, yesterday (12.03.2024). “It really bothers me when people say you can have it all, because, honestly, you can’t”, added the singer. “Some people choose career from children and that is their right”. Allen has experienced the greatest success of her UK career, with three number one hits and 15 on Top 40. Her debut album “Alright Still”, which contained “Smile” and “LDN“, launched her to fame and resulted in a nomination for the best album of alternative music at the 2008 Grammy Awards. 38-year-old Allen said she chose to retire and focus on raising her two children, who she had with her ex-husband Sam Cooper, because her parents were “quite absent” when she was a child. Allen’s parents, actor Keith Allen and film producer Allison Owen, were both in the show industry. The singer is the sister of his actor “Game of Thrones”, Alfie Allen. “I feel that this left some bad signs that I am not willing to repeat [to my children]”, he said. “I chose to back off and focus on them, and I am glad I did that, because I think they are quite complete people.” Allen currently lives in New York with her daughters and her husband, the protagonist of “Stranger Things” David Harbour , whom she married in 2020.
