It takes off, through a two-systems approach, the airport

By Vicki ΚώσταΤον June 2017, is expected to complete the procedures for the implementation of the satellite system to assist, through the “HORIZON 2020” – a Commitment by the… FAA for completion of the study of the technical specifications for mounting ground system GBAS
Lifting of the isolation of the Continent, through ground and air, it seems that will bring in 2017, as apart from the completion of the Ionian Road in March of 2017, a few months later, and more specifically in June and the airport of ioannina, Ioannina, greece, is expected to take off.
The new year will bring many gifts and yes… expected, as in the case of the airport, which is permanently in the last few years was emitting a distress signal, to ensure the operations of the trust and permanently fall into the “empty air”.
Cause, over time, a disparaging attitude of the Civil Aviation authority, which put obstacles in the tourism development of the region.
Now, the disdain and indifference, gave way to consensus and to the satisfaction of a fixed request of the local community.
This at least distinguishes, from reading the announcement of the Office of the General Secretary of Infrastructure, which was issued after a broad meeting, which was held on Friday, in Athens, on the theme of the airport.
In the meeting, under the Secretary-General Infrastructure, George Dede, which was attended by the Commander of the Civil Aviation authority (CAA) Constantine Λιτζεράκος, the members of Ioannina Christos Mantas, Ioannis Stefos, Merope Τζούφη and Konstantinos Tasoulas, the Mayor of Ioannina Thomas Μπέγκας and the deputy Mayor of Quality of Life and Tourism Nikolaos Γκόλας, there was an extensive briefing by the Commander of the YPA and strains of the service, in connection with the completion of the actions for the improvement of procedures for the approach of aircraft to the airport of Ioannina, in the framework of the programme “HORIZON 2020”.
As shown, the “green light”, finally emerges from obscurity to the airport “King Pyrrhus” will be lit in about six months, so and are expected to have completed the installation of the system approach, which is funded by this programme.
The project is progressing and the installation of the system approach, will have been completed three months earlier than the original schedule, i.e., June 2017, instead of September of the relevant year and the airport will have a complete system approach for aircraft, which will restore the flight of the functionality.
“Unanimously, the attendees expressed their utmost satisfaction about the actions that have been promoted in terms of the Civil Aviation authority, in order to direct time and yes, 3 months earlier than the original schedule (June of 2017, instead of September of the corresponding year) to complete the procedures for the implementation of the satellite system to assist approach of the aircraft to the airport of Ioannina” refers to characteristics in communication.
Comes and the GBAS
But the good news, don’t stop here, as the FAA has undertaken within a reasonable time (January 2017) to complete the study of the technical specifications for mounting ground system GBAS. This is the system put forward by the Municipality of Ioannina and has been proposed to be financed by the Region of Epirus. The cost of this modern system which can meet the state and to the amount of 800,000 euros, is aliquot of the notorious ILS for which there was all the discussions in the past, however, is characterized as “insignificant”, in front of the upgrade of the airport.
This system, unlike the european satellite navigation system, will ensure the approach to the aircraft of all the companies, in order to be “open” and abroad.
“The implementation of the new system responds to a persisting request of the local community to upgrade the airport of Ioannina. The next step agreed by all participants is the assessment of the results of the implementation of the new system and the exhaustion of possibilities for further improvement,” concludes the announcement of the Office of the Secretary-General Infrastructure.
However, what is baffling is, why the minister for Infrastructure Christos Spirtzis, in a statement from the city of Ioannina, on Thursday afternoon, rejected the installation of the system GBAS, stressing that the ministry considers adequate the satellite system approach of the aircraft, through the program “Horizon 2020”, which implements the Civil Aviation authority…
