It is forbidden any reference to communism in Poland

Prohibition of any reference that disseminate “communism or any other totalitarian regime’ in the streets, public buildings and…
areas provides for a law signed by a conservative president of Poland, Andrzej Duda.
According to the interpretative circular of the law, the names of buildings, streets, roads, squares, bridges, “they can’t honor people, organizations, events and dates that symbolize communism or any other totalitarian regime, or promote the scheme in other ways”.
While prohibited references to the regime imposed in Poland during the period 1944 – 1989 when the country belonged to the soviet alliance.
The act gives local authorities a deadline of one year to remove all symbols that celebrate “the totalitarian and non-dominant status” from public places.
In the case of non-timely compliance with the new provisions, the government will impose a new temporary name to replace the one that features unwanted.
According to the authors of the law, approximately 1,200 to 1,400 different locations in all over the Poland, going to change name.
Similar laws prohibiting propaganda in favour of communism have been adopted, and in other countries, such as Hungary, Moldova and Ukraine.
