IPTO: The completion of the new facilities of the Kumudros High Voltage Centre is expected

Pending the completion of the major energy project was visited by his political leadership, executives of the European Commission and the Special Coordination Service of the Recovery Fund, the upgraded Center for High Voltage ( ) Koumoundourou, in Aspropyrgos, Attica. The President and CEO of ADME Manos Manousakis and the Vice President and Director-General for Technology, System Development and Strategy Ioannis Margaris, welcomed at the premises of the new KYT the Minister of Environment and Energy, Theodore Skylakis, the Director of the EU Special Group for Recovery and Resistantness (RECOVER) Johannes Luebking and a step of the Special Coordination Service of the Recovery Fund led by Commander Orestes Kavala. A tour was followed by the Director of New Transmission Works of ADMIE Michalis Hatzipanos, in which the significant progress made in the construction of the project was found. In particular, in February 2024, the 400 kV side of the KYT was completed, which is one of the most important accompanying projects and the electrical interconnection of Crete-Attiki, and by October 2024 the 150 kV side is expected to be completed. The new Corinth – Attica High Voltage Line, a project under construction, will also end with the co-financing of the Recovery and Durability Fund, which will provide greater energy security for the Peloponnese. The Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr.Theodoros Skylakakis, stated: “The great work of upgrading the Center for the High Voltage Koumoundourou is crucial to our electrical system. It is implemented – almost finished – with resources from the Recovery and Durability Fund “Greece 2.0”, with the help of the European Union. This is a crucial project for the interconnection of the Peloponnese and the interconnection of Crete, as well as the stability of the electrical system. It is a project that lies a generation ahead of anything else that has been built, in terms of high-voltage power stations, which allows us to have security in our electrical system, with minor losses. At the same time, it creates the conditions, so that we can integrate Renewable Energy as quickly as possible into our electricity system, aiming at the necessary transition towards a greener, safer and more cost-effective future.” The Governor of the Orestes Kavala Recovery Fund said: “Today we had the opportunity to meet with the officials of the European Commission in the work of upgrading the Koumoundourou High Voltage Center implemented by IPTO. The project is a neural infrastructure for the energy transmission system and contributes decisively to the capacity and stability of the country’s electricity network from Attica to Crete. We are now in the process of implementing the projects of the Recovery Fund and this is an intervention crucial and necessary for further penetration of RES that is a priority of the Fund.” The President and CEO of ADME Manos Manousakis said: “We have presented today to the executives of the European Commission and the Minister for Environment and Energy one of the most crucial works of the country’s electricity system, which connects Attica with the Peloponnese, will play a very important role in the interconnection of Attica with Crete and will make the system of Central Greece more stable as a whole. It is a “green” infrastructure, which requires much smaller space than existing installations and will upgrade the security and stability of the Greek electricity transmission system in order to move forward in time to the energy transition.” The project is co-financed by the Recovery and Durability Fund “Greece 2.0” with the funding of the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
