International Criminal Court condemned Russian military commanders for war crimes

She issued arrest warrants against the senior commanders of her army, Sergei Ivanovic Kobilas and Victor Nikolayevich Sokolov. The reason is they’re charged with war crimes in Ukraine. The International Criminal Court (ICC), which has its seat in The Hague, says that “there are good reasons to believe that the two suspects are responsible for the missile attacks carried out under their command by the Russian military in Ukrainian electricity infrastructure from at least 10 October 2022 to at least 9 March 2023.” Kobilas is commander of the long-range air force of the Aerospace Forces and Sokolov is a fleet commander of Russia of the Black Sea. The Court adds to its communication that the damage and losses suffered by the civilian population as a consequence of the attacks were clearly exaggerated in relation to any expected military advantage. Ukrainian prosecutors continue to investigate possible war crimes following the campaign of air attacks on Ukrainian energy and general utility infrastructure. Russia deliberately denies targeting civilian infrastructure in Ukraine, claiming that all its attacks aim to reduce Kiev’s ability to fight. The arrest warrants of the two high-ranking Russian military were signed by ICC judges Tomoko Akane and Rosario Aitala, who in March 2023 issued arrest warrants for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russia’s competent commissioner for children’s rights Maria Lvova Belova on charges of forced transfer of children from Ukraine to Russia. “Extremely symbolic warrants” Consultant of the Ukrainian president said today that arrest warrants are extremely symbolic. “…it is obvious that this time Russia will not be completely able to avoid responsibility for premeditated and large-scale war crimes,” said Michaelo Podoliak, adviser to Ukrainian President Volontimir Zelenski.
