Increase birth allowance with retroactive effect from 1 January 2023 – Detailed amounts

It was increased after the vote on Articles 29-32 of Law No 5092/2024. ‘Terms for the exploitation of public property in coastal areas and other provisions’ (Government Gazette 33/A/2024) and amended as regards the fixing of the amount of its grant, according to its notice . In particular, OPEKA explains how the amount of the birth allowance is now taken into account by the number of dependent children of the family, as it is formed after the birth of the child. The amount is paid as follows: EUR 2,400 for the first dependent child birth order, EUR 2,700 for the second dependent child birth order, EUR 3,000 for the third dependent child birth order and EUR 3,500 for the fourth and each subsequent dependent child in the order of birth. Following the adoption of the relevant application, the birth allowance shall be paid as follows: two equal doses of a thousand two hundred and 1,200 euros each for the first birth order dependent child, two equal doses of a thousand three hundred fifty-150 euros each for the second birth order dependent child, two equal doses of a thousand five hundred and 1,500 euros each for the third birth order dependent child and two equal doses of a thousand seven hundred fifty-one, seven50 euros each for the fourth and each subsequent, in order of birth, dependent child. Retrospective increase in birth allowance The retroactive increase of the birth allowance, until the entry into force of this Act, shall be paid to persons who have become beneficiaries of the birth allowance from 1 January 2023 onwards, i.e. persons whose application for the grant of the birth allowance was approved from 1 January 2023 onwards. The additional amount resulting from the increase in the birth allowance shall be paid to the beneficiaries without submitting a new application or taking any other action as follows: to the beneficiaries who have received the full amount of the birth allowance, the additional amount shall be paid once in the month of April 2024, to the beneficiaries whose application has been approved, but without having completed the payment of both instalments of the allowance, the additional amount shall be paid by paying the second instalment.
