How private sector employees working on 25 March are rewarded

The General Confederation of Workers of Greece ( ) and the Centre for the Information of Workers & Unemployment of the Confederation (K. P. Hey. A./GSEU) provides clarification on how private sector remuneration to work on 25 March. As the relevant GSEE announcement states, March 25th, which this year, in 2024 coincides with Monday’s day, has been laid down by law as a mandatory holiday . In compulsory holidays the employment of employees and the operation of undertakings shall be prohibited, except for those legally operating on Sundays and during compulsory holidays. The following applies to the remuneration of Monday 25 March 2024: Undertakings that do not operate are paid, without any increase, the usual salary to those who are paid on a salary, while those who are paid on a salary are paid their monthly salary. – For companies legally operating Workers to be employed shall be entitled to: 1. if they are paid on a daily basis, their usual paid wage and 75% increase, which will be calculated on their statutory hourly wage for all hours worked, 2. if employees are paid on a monthly salary: if they are enterprises which are late on Sundays and holiday days and will exceptionally operate on 25 March, it is due to 1/25 of their usual paid salary and an additional 75% increase on the statutory salary for those hours employed, if they are companies operating legally on Sundays and other holidays, only a 75% increase, calculated at 1/25 of their statutory salary for those hours employed. In addition, workers should be aware of the following: – It is not legal to set off a due rest day on a mandatory holiday day. – The salary of 25 March is also entitled to employees on leave, but this day is not counted on the working days of their leave. – If more favourable conditions apply (e.g. from a Collective Labour Convention, working regulations, business practice or custom) in terms of increases in remuneration for work on a mandatory holiday or Sunday, they prevail.
