Crossing the finish line of their trip to Nice, France, Lexie Alford and the new Explorer led a Ford iconic vehicle convoy, flanked by its current models, shaping the vision for the company’s future direction. “Ford wants to bring passion and emotions to electric cars in Europe. There are a lot of boring cars and SUVs out there. The new Explorer represents Ford’s unique character, which is reflected in every car of this amazing convoy,” said Jim Farley, CEO of Ford, who attended the celebration. “We are proud to launch this new, purely electric passenger car, which is specially designed for Europe’s roads and customers and is apparently capable of taking you anywhere in the world.” On his incredible journey, the new Ford Explorer crossed 6 continents, passed through 27 countries and traveled more than 30,000 kilometers, all consuming only electricity. Facing both the power cuts in Africa and the lack of charging infrastructure in the Atacama Desert, Chile, as well as environments with unformed roads, mountain passages and frost conditions, the new Ford Explorer proved through this achievement what exactly can be done with an electric vehicle. “Lexie’s journey was the ultimate test drive for our new Ford Explorer, facing all kinds of weather and road conditions and almost every charging scenario,” said Martin Sander, general manager Ford Model e Europe. “It embodies the true spirit of “I can do it” of this company, taking this great opportunity to try not only ourselves but also global charging infrastructure. Crossing the finish line today proves exactly what you can do with the new, purely electric Ford Explorer and we are happy that customers will soon be able to find out for themselves.” The vehicle used by Lexie Alford on this particular trip was a pre-production version of FordExplorer, now available for ordering. During the trip he used a variety of charging solutions – from wall sockets AC 2.2 kW and DC chargers up to portable battery. Throughout her journey Lexie was based on the storage space MegaConsole of the cabin, which can fit up to three 1.5 litre bottles leaving free enough space, the heated and massaged driver seat, as well as Ford’s SYNC Move 2 information and entertainment system with voice activation and adjustable touch screen – features that are standard in Ford Explorer Style and Ford Explorer Premium versions. “On this epic journey I met incredible people from many corners of the world and crossed 27 countries behind the wheel. On this journey the challenges were many,” said Lexie, who also holds the world record as the youngest person to visit each country in the world. “It was a dream of life and honor for me that Ford trusted me to go around the world with the electric Explorer, which has been like home for the last six months. I was aiming to cross the line on what it is possible to do with an EV and I am proud to have done it!”.
