priests instruct those who have ceased to do, read the Gospel in the Greek language to stop immediately.
Mentions that “it has come to my attention that several brothers have decided – without my permission – to stop the reading of the Gospel in Greek in the Divine liturgy. This is a great disheartenment, and I ask you that you have taken such a decision to reverse immediately.”
Complements that “if, unfortunately, you are not able to read the text in its original language, I’m sure you can find a dedicated folk who will be happy to help”.
The Eminence Methodius stresses that “the Gospel and the Lord’s Prayer (the our Father) must be read always in both languages”.
Asks the priests to send the names and e-mail students from your community who attend colleges and universities around the country,” and stresses that “the Diocese will make special effort to be in contact with these young and new”.
Urges parishioners to those who have not ever served in the community councils to do something like that. Stresses to the priests that, “in particular, I urge you to find young adults in your community about this ministry”.
Also, it raises the important issue of the renewal of the posts of the president and the treasurer of the community council. Some presidents may not serve in the position of president for over six years and the cashiers more than three.
In his statements to the “National Herald” the Eminence Methodius said, “I have heard that there are some priests who do not read the Gospel on Sundays, in the Greek language, and I say from where, that is why I wrote this letter and say this is unacceptable” and questioned “where are we going?”
He also said, “I know that most people don’t know English but that doesn’t mean that we will stop, and the Gospel. And because some are not able to read the Gospel to them I say read it in English, and assign to cantor or any of the pious Greek to read it in English”.
