BMW Group and NTT DATA Romania signed an agreement to develop and operate IT business solutions

Group and NTT DATA Romania signed an agreement to establish a joint venture in Romania. BMW Group continues to expand its global network for corporate IT and ensures talent and experience in the software sector. The implementation of the consortium agreement shall be subject to the examination and approval of the competent authorities. The consortium benefits from NTT DATA’s long-term experience in flexible software development and from its excellent network in Romania’s local IT community. The new centre in Romania is intended to support BMW Group IT needs in Europe and promote project and innovation in this area for BMW production, development, human resources, sales and financial services. “With NTT DATA, we rely on another powerful partner who has an excellent network in a technologically live area and enables us to develop additional software capabilities quickly and targetedly. In collaboration with companies such as NTT DATA we can create strong IT nodes in response to the lack of skilled IT personnel”, comments Alexander Buresch, CIO and Senior Vice President of BMW Group IT. “We are proud to announce our plans to open a new software development center in Cluj-Napoca along with BMW Group. This partnership aims to help the company lead the digital transformation,” states Maria Metz, CEO of NTT DATA Romania. The consortium will be installed in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. The campus offers a strong ecosystem for innovations with stable entrepreneurship, new business and a large number of talents on the technological stage. This creates great potential for long-term development of the consortium, which is expected to employ around 250 software developers at the end of 2024, and with the number of employees estimated to increase to four-digit by 2027. BMW Group and NTT DATA have been working together on a wide range of projects for over 30 years. The signing of the consortium agreement marks the next major step in this partnership. Global footprint in the IT and software development sector BMW Group has already gone on to digitize the entire company and its internal and external processes. For several years, IT and software hubs in Germany, the US, South Africa, India, Portugal (Critical TechWorks consortium) and China (LingYue Digital IT Co. Ltd. and BA TechWorks) have been strengthening the software know-how of the premium manufacturer and contributing significantly to the development and operation of innovative IT solutions for the Group. A total of over 9,400 employees around the world are already employed in the IT and software development sector for BMW Group and for consortia.
