At 2.1 billion euros the assets of the Occupational Insurance Funds increased in 2023

5.4% (EUR 13 million) The total value of the assets of Compulsory Occupational Insurance and Occupational Insurance Funds increased in the fourth quarter of 2023 compared to the previous quarter and was set at 2,158 billion euros according to the Bank of Greece, the total deposits of the Funds were reduced by 28m euros and formed at 64m euros at the end of the fourth quarter of 2023. The percentage of deposits on total assets decreased to 3.0% in the fourth quarter of 2023, compared to 4.5% in the previous quarter. The value of the total placements of the Funds in debt securities increased to EUR 1,049 million at the end of the fourth quarter of 2023, compared with EUR 997 million in the previous quarter. This development is mainly due to the increase in the valuations of both the government bonds of the other euro area countries and the Greek State bonds. The percentage of debt instruments on total assets was reduced to 48.6% in the fourth quarter, compared with 48.8% in the previous quarter. The value of total holdings in mutual funds shares increased to 669m euros, compared to 609m euros in the previous quarter and their share of total assets increased to 31.0%, compared to 29.8% in the previous quarter. The increase in the value of placements is due, on the one hand, to markets and, on the other hand, to an increase in the valuations of the shares in the euro area. The value of total holdings in shares and other instruments of ownership increased to EUR 332 million, compared to EUR 303 million in the previous quarter, a development due both to foreign stock markets and to rising prices. The percentage of shares in total assets increased to 15.4% in the fourth quarter of 2023 from 14.8% in the previous quarter.
