Alarm for avian influenza, which arrived in Evros

In a state of alarm…
are the Greek authorities, as detected confirmed case of avian influenza in βουβόκυκνο, which has been identified in the Delta of Evros.
On the border with Greece, two neighbouring regions of Bulgaria, the Plovdiv (Plovdiv) and Stara Zagora, where they are killed en masse thousands of poultry, the avian influenza while in our country, the unique appearance of an outbreak of this highly contagious influenza was in a wild swan found dead in the Evros Delta on 19 December.
The worrying thing is that in the neighboring country, which was declared in a state of heightened readiness, have been recorded already 15 outbreaks of avian influenza. In Plovdiv, where there are a lot of units for hatching of poultry, have been killed already, about 9,000 birds, while in Stara Zagora, in accordance with the regional governor Giorgi Ράνοβ it is estimated that it will be killed the next time over 15,000 poultry. With the exception of Bulgaria, where the avian flu has reached mass proportions, the Balkans have been recorded incidents in Romania, Serbia and Croatia.
In increased alertness are the veterinary services of the country, in order to avoid the transmission of avian influenza from wild birds to poultry,.
In a communication of the Region of Attica is noted, that in accordance with the biosecurity measures for avian influenza, as provided for in the relevant ministerial decision “prohibits the keeping of poultry (backyard, free-range, organic etc.e.): in non-enclosed areas throughout the territory, as well as in open spaces mixed livestock, mainly in areas that are less than 2 km from wetlands, rivers, lakes, and each kind of drainage basins.
It should be noted that the poultry must be in enclosed spaces with any openings covered by caps that would preclude contact with wild birds.
Up to assess the overall situation and the need for an extension of the relevant prohibition, it is recommended that all farmed poultry which are located at distances greater than 2 km from wetlands, rivers and lakes to be kept indoors.
The same is true for birds in captivity that are kept in parks, zoos and similar facilities.
It is noted that until today there has been contamination of human by subtype Η5Ν8 of influenza A despite the large number of individuals who have been exposed to him in the management of outbreaks in birds.
