About…
30 people, players of a small, local football team and their supporters, lost his life Sunday when the boat carrying it sank in lake Albert, in western Uganda, as it became known today from the police authorities of the country.
“There was a feast on the boat, the passengers were dancing and some were drunk. It was overloaded, with 45 people. All of them were members of the football team and local fans,” explained the commander of the local police, John Ρουταγκίρα.
The tragedy happened when the players and their friends gathered together on one side of the vessel, which capsized. “It sank and about 30 people have drowned,” added the Ρουταγκίρα, stating that the weather conditions were good.
15 of the passengers were rescued by police and fishermen.
The victims came from the village of Καουεϊμπάντα, in the province of Μπουλιίσα. The group was going to give a friendly football match in the neighbouring province Χόιμα during the holidays.
This is the second maritime tragedy that occurs within a few days on the lakes of Uganda. Last Friday, about 20 people drowned in almost the same way in the Lake Victoria while returning from the island Μπουκάσα.
