Why employers ask, “how do you see yourself in a few years?”

Although seemingly it’s not very difficult question, the answer to the…
“how do you see yourself in a few years?” can be the key in whether you will get hired or not.
David Wishon, former head of HR in the site search working Happie and now in charge of talent management at Rue La La, explains: “The purpose of this common question is to understand the employer if the candidate wants to make a career, or if you just looking for a job, if the objectives coincide with the objectives of the company and if he has a realistic plan for the future”.
Dale Kurow, director of vocational education supports that the answer you give to this question will make the company to understand if you possess the necessary work ethic, character and dedication for getting hired.
Well, that’s what they want to hear and what not to recruiters when they make the specific question:
They want to see if you think carefully about your answer
“Don’t you have to show that you are functioning without a long-term plan. Make the person who takes the interview to understand that you have thought of a good question, and that in your mind, in fact, there is a plan. You will also need to show that you’re flexible. Anyone can understand that the data is changing, so aim for a balance between the way that you want to go professionally, and that things may turn out differently than you expect” explains Wishon.
They want to see that you have goals but you’re still and realist
“Don’t give the impression that you’re too ambitious. It is accepted to mention some possible developments in the company, but if you show that you intend to become a CEO in 5 years, and the time of the interview relates to a position of a beginner are you going to do a very bad impression”.
