Why build “new walls” in Europe

Nikos Androulakis
Today, a new crisis is being added in the economic as a significant threat for the cohesion of Europe. This is of course the…
failure to tackle the refugee crisis. One after another of the european member states violate the common agreements and european law, close the border and require caravans of misery to congregate in front of the barbed wire. We celebrated, and rightly so, when the Berlin wall fell and when she opened the green line in Nicosia to see new walls going up in Europe?
No, of course Europe is not fund is a great idea. It is the very simple idea that through integration, we can overcome the dividing lines of the past and to live in peace all together. The raison d’être of the European Union is precisely to avoid the mistakes of the past that have led to wars and carnage victims. With solidarity and collective effort we can all work together going forward. This is the common european vision.
Unfortunately in the last few months and especially the last few weeks, this vision has begun to fade. Europe is a patient, suffering at the level of implementation. An agreement between the heads of member states for the maintenance of open borders καταπατιέται brutally a few days after the signing of the. In October we designed a system of relocation of refugees, which provided for the creation of hot spots, the safe identification of refugees and the treatment of traffickers from Turkey. What was implemented by all of this until today? Minimum, and these only at the last moment.
Why is this happening? The far-right gallops to the Visegrad countries. Under the electoral pressure of the leaderships of these countries end up taking measures which are not only incompatible with european principles and values, but, in some cases, are clearly in breach of the eu law. Of course, these countries accept δυσαναλόγους numbers of refugees. Austria has υποδεθεί almost 90,000. The closure of the border, however, may not be the solution.
This also applies for an additional reason. The failure in the management of the refugee crisis also affects other areas that are critical for the future of Europe. In the United Kingdom in a few months we will have a referendum on staying or not in the EU. The camp of the “Brexit” has already seen a significant increase in the rates of and due to the crisis of the refugee.
Nor, of course, and we, as Greece, we have done all that I had. In October we had undertaken specific commitments which we have implemented only partially. Also we were delayed consented to the mutation of FRONTEX in european coast guard and we came to accept the deployment of NATO, with the foggy conditions.
What should be done? Things are relatively simple. If not normalize the situation in Syria and end the civil war issue is not going to deal with decisively. The refugees are not coming to Europe only because their lives are in danger in Syria. Besides, most are located in the relative safety of the Τουρκιάς, Lebanon and Jordan. Come and why they don’t see a realistic perspective for the return to their homes in a short period of time. This is not however the only reason. In the countries that hosted today may not be at risk but I don’t have any future. I don’t have the right to work and their children don’t go to school. Practically see their lives and that of their children destroyed without any hope for tomorrow.
So, we need to move forward at a political level on the basis of the recent agreement of Vienna for the end of the civil war. Already he has achieved a ceasefire, which in general adhered to. But this is not enough. Must be implemented and a road map for drafting a new constitution, the holding of elections and the securing of peace through the presence of peacekeeping forces. To these must be added and the application of agreed by the European states and Turkey. Only then will there be realistic hope of a return of the refugees and the crisis has been dealt with decisively.
