What will sign Tsipras in Beijing

Alexis Tsipras αναχωρησε from Athens to China, where they will carry out up to the Wednesday official visit…
During the meeting with the Chinese prime minister Li Keqiang, signed a joint declaration in which Greece and China will proclaim the upgrade and expansion of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries, which was launched in 2006.
According to information, the declaration will have two strands. The political part will concern the upgrading of political dialogue between the two countries on international and regional issues of mutual interest -which is extremely useful, given the displacement of China and its position as a permanent member of the UN Security Council.
The financial part will be referred to in bilateral cooperation in areas such as technology, trade, investment, transport and infrastructure.
Separate agreements will be signed for cooperation in culture, education, as well as the investments and exports.
It is noted that in the framework of the visit of the prime minister and the Greek delegation, there will be a multitude of contacts with chinese companies worldwide, while during the business forum there will be meetings and will be signed agreements between Greek and chinese businesses.
The official part of the visit, the prime minister will have meetings with the political and state leadership of the people’s Republic of China: the chairman of the National People’s Congress, the prime minister and the President of the country.
Estimates of five institutions
Particularly positive is the -under certain conditions – prospects for the further substantial development of ελληνοκινεζικών relations in economic and political terms, according to estimates by the Consortium of Chinese Studies, which make up the Institute of International Economic Relations (IDOS), the Institute of International Relations (ΙΔΙΣ) of the Panteion University, the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP), the Department of Political Science and International Relations, University of Peloponnese and the Department of Mediterranean Studies of the Aegean University.
As noted in a related note, so far, special emphasis has been given to the cooperation between the Greek shipping companies and chinese shipyards, item useful, if not entirely profitable for the country as a whole.
Efforts have been made to attract Chinese tourists with very encouraging results. On the contrary, are not ensured for the moment the conditions for stable expansion of Greek exports to the economic giant, despite the fact that it is the second largest market in the world, with a GDP of around eur 6 trillion. $ .
For the visit
The Consortium of Chinese Studies, believes that the forthcoming visit of the Greek prime minister in China in the year we celebrate the ten year anniversary of the signing of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Greece and China (2006), is an ideal opportunity so as to maximise the expected profits from the further development of bilateral relations. To this end, as it deems appropriate, the following actions:
1. The confirmation of the role of Greece as a transit centre on the marine trade route Europe-East Asia through the promotion and support of services of logistics and combined transport (intermodaltransport), with the rapid completion of the privatisation of the PPA.
2. The further promotion of Greece as a point of investment interest, including through the facilitation of interconnection of Greek enterprises with chinese. It is noted that emphasis should be given to competitive small and medium-sized Greek businesses, which are unable due to size to interconnect easily with corresponding chinese.
3. The substantial support of Greek enterprises in the expansion to China in a coordinated manner and not piecemeal, as with a few exceptions to date. The expected growth of private consumption in China, combined with the positive picture for Greece, are expected to create a significant potential for further development of the Greek export trade to the margins to be very important -in this phase, only 2% of Greek exports are directed to the chinese market.
4. To focus on the further development of the tourist flow from China to Greece through the facilitation of access to it as well as the chinese tourist market remains one of the most thriving and with an ever-increasing rate of consumption.
5. Development of a coherent strategy of cooperation between Greek and chinese educational and research institutions.
