What the new regulation provides for for those who have due dues

New rules on when a consumer will be free to change the provider into introducing the proposal of the Energy Regulatory Authority ( ) put into consultation. In particular, RAAEF gave to public consultation yesterday (26.3.2024) the changes to the Power and Natural Gas Supply Code based on RIS proposals, where the new regulation for a change in electricity provider is highlighted. According to the proposal, switching supplier to electricity is permitted except in the following cases: When the provider has sent the load meter deactivation command to the Administrator (electrification switch). When it has been submitted and is an active client labeling order as a long-term in the responsible Administrator’s system by three different providers for the basic category of household customers and by two different providers for the basic category of non-domestic customers. Consumers who have debts from 1 January 2020 will be marked with the so-called debt flagging. Suppliers will first offer them the possibility of regulating their debts and if this is not possible, then they will enter the DEDGE system designated as debtors. Then, after 20 days, the supplier will be able to initiate the procedures for stopping electricity. The aim of the regulation is to combat the phenomenon of energy tourism, where consumers with debts can constantly change providers, causing an important “hole” in the electricity market.
