What is the relation of coffee with the... hearing? - Athens Times

What is the relation of coffee with the… hearing?

The coffee lovers who like to watch concerts…
rock and metal music, or working at airports and other places where noise is increased, you have to be careful, as a recent study shows that caffeine has a serious impact on the hearing!
What did you say? You don’t… that sounds believable? According to research of the university of McGill in Canada, the regular consumption of caffeine can prevent to a large extent the recovery of the hearing from the loud noise, and it is likely to do permanent damage to hearing!
“When the ear is exposed to loud noise, you may suffer a temporary reduction of hearing, which is also called acoustic temporary displacement threshold. This disorder is usually reversible during the first 72 hours after exposure, but if the symptoms persist, the damage could become permanent,” says dr. Faisal Zawawi, otolaryngologist at McGill university.
The researchers arrived at this conclusion, the effects of caffeine on hearing, through an experiment in guinea pigs. The ομαδοποίησαν and separated to those living in an environment with increased noise and without drinking any coffee, and those who lived in the same environment with increased noise, but taking a daily dose of caffeine.
The test animals be exposed for one hour per day at a noise level equivalent to that exposed to going to a rock concert or metal music. After eight days, they found that there was a significant difference in the total hearing loss that was recorded in the members of each group.
The subjects who drank daily caffeine had a reduced recovery of their hearing, compared with those who did not drink any coffee.
In 2015, the European Authority for Food Safety published a directive, on the basis of which, the daily intake of caffeine from all dietary not exceed 400 mg, and each dose of caffeine should not exceed 200 mg, so it is considered safe for adults in the general population.
But the research of the university of McGill shows that exposure to loud noises in combination with the daily consumption of 25 mg of caffeine can have a clear negative impact on the recovery of hearing of the individual.
