Upgrade by 4 tiers of PPC’s assessment by the International CDP Organisation

Four tiers have been upgraded by the International Non-Governmental Organization Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), from “D-” to “B-“, on issues of mitigation and adaptation to . With transformation in line with implementation, PPC Group continuously improves its performance in critical areas related to climate change, and now ranks 37% of companies assessed with “B-” by the CDP, a higher position than the global average. The upgrading of PPC’s assessment by CDP is mainly due to its significant improvement in critical areas, such as strategy, governance and risk management practices, as well as the way in which it calculates CO2 emissions and implements actions and strategies aimed at mitigating the negative impact on the climate and the environment. This upgrade is the result of the implementation of the strategy for the withdrawal of lignite plants and development of the Group’s RES and commitments for zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040 (Net Zero). PPC, as part of its “green” transformation in progress, has experienced a reduction of approximately 30% of CO2 emissions intensity since 2020. The international CDP is considered an environmental reference standard , assessing 2023 more than 23,000 companies , organisations, states, regions and cities around the world. Since its establishment in 2000, the CDP has been focusing on building a sustainable economy, examining data on the effects of businesses and states on the climate, forests and water safety worldwide. It cooperates with companies and governments that disclose their actions and objectives on issues relating to the reduction of pollutant emissions, the management of climate risks and opportunities, their environmental footprint, and their sustainability practices. PPC Group’s Sustainable Development Director, Achilles Iioakimidis said: “The significant upgrade of our assessment by the CDP, in just one year, is essential for both PPC and the wider ecosystem and interested parties. It shows that the Sustainable Development Strategy is implemented 2 horizontally across the Group and meets measurable objectives undertaken. At the same time, it confirms and acknowledges in the most reliable and scientific way the transformation that takes place in the Group, which, apart from a key strategic choice to create value for our shareholders, also contributes to the mitigation of climate change. We aim to reduce CO2 emission intensity by 74% in 2030, zero net carbon footprint (Net Zero) by 2040 and increase the distributed value in the environment, society and economy.” PPC: Looking at a “green” and sustainable future PPC Group is in a continuous process of “green” transformation with the increase of investments in RES and the gradual withdrawal of lignite plants at the heart of energy planning. Aiming to become a leader of clean energy in Southeast Europe and the wider region, the Group changes and sets new foundations for the future. According to the business plan for the period 2024-2026 presented by the Group’s management at Capital Markets Day 2024 in London, the next three years will be the three years of Renewable Energy in production, since in 2026 the Group’s installed RES power will double from today and reach 8.9GW. In three years, RES will constitute 68% of the total installed power of PPC Group, through investments and partnerships in Greece and Romania and other regions in Southeast Europe, including Bulgaria.
