UN Secretary-General: We need dialogue with the Taliban to prevent millions from dying

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has urged the international community to continue “dialogue” with the de facto Taliban regime in Afghanistan.

“We must maintain a dialogue with the Taliban, reaffirming our principles without hesitation, a dialogue in solidarity with the Afghan people,” he said.

“It is our duty to offer our solidarity to a people who are suffering at the expense of many, in a country where millions of people are at risk of starvation,” Guterres said.

“So far, in the talks, we have had, at least there has been a reluctance to talk,” said Antonio Guterres, who did not rule out the possibility of traveling to Afghanistan if the necessary conditions are met.
