U.S.: Democratic Senators Asked Biden to Press for Palestinian State Creation · Global Voices

Over a third of the Democratic senators have today called on the president to push it further to create a Palestinian state. These pressures from the Democratic senators come at a time when the US and Joe Biden appear to lose patience over Israel. This initiative comes after the speech of the head of Democrats in the Senate, Chuck Schumer, who surprised to call for a new election to be held in Israel and openly criticizing Benjamin Netanyahu’s government for the way he handles the war against Hamas, the Gaza Strip. The Middle East crisis “came to a critical point” and this requires the US to do more than “simplify” the discussions between Israelis and Palestinians, 19 senators led by Tom Carper, Joe Biden’s political ally for many years. “We therefore ask the Biden government to quickly implement and give publicity a plan describing the necessary measures” to create a Palestinian state in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip, add senators. However, this state should be demilitarized, recognise Israel and renounce Hamas, the Palestinian movement that launched the October 7 attack on Israeli territory, resulting in at least 1,160 people being killed, in their majority. Although Joe Biden and Foreign Minister Anthony Blinken say they support the “solution of the two states”, their words have remained “declaration of intentions”. And Benjamin Netanyahu, whose government is attended by many far-right ministers, is strongly opposed.
