Congress presented a draft law banning any new direct funding of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA), accused of ties to UNRWA is at the heart of a dispute after Israel argued in late January that 12 of its nearly 13,000 Gaza workers were involved in Hamas’ attack on Israeli territory on October 7. About 15 countries, including the USA, discontinued their funding in this service in the same month but some have now resumed payments. The war in the Gaza Strip sparked after Hamas’ attack on southern Israel, where at least 1,160 people were killed, most of whom were civilians, according to a French Agency count based on official Israeli figures. The Israeli military operation conducted in retaliation has cost lives to more than 31,700 people in the Palestinian enclave, according to the Hamas Health Ministry.
