Tubes: What are they and how are they treated?

Tube masts are a congenital anomaly, a disorder created during the formation of breasts in embryonic life with consequences that appear much later, during puberty, when the . “This is a condition quite common, characterized by a disorder of breast base development, i.e. more narrow, with hypoplasia (the breasts are small or atrophic) and with a lack of skin at the bottom of the breasts, resulting in the breast fold standing higher in the chest while the nipple and halo complex is usually hypertrophic. To put it more descriptively, the breast is long and looks like Snoopy’s nose. The degree of mast growth disorder may vary significantly even to the same person, resulting in the development of often intense asymmetry between the two breasts”, explains Mr. George Zampacus Plastic Surgeon, in the Metropolitan General, specialized in the Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery of the Mass. What causes this disorder? “The exact etiology of tubular breasts remains unclear. It is a congenital disorder, created during intramural life, but it has not been clarified whether it contributes hereditary or environmental factors to what extent. According to the prevailing theory, which was published 20 years ago in the world’s largest plastic surgery magazine, Plastic and Reconstructional Surgery, the creation of tubular breasts is due to a transient hormonal disorder during pregnancy which leads to the development of a “ring” of fibrous connective tissue at the breast base, which prevents normal breast growth. That is, the breast base is closer so that growth is done more in length, i.e. long as a tube,” says the expert. How common is the occurrence of tubular breasts? The exact frequency is not known, but we estimate that it concerns about 15-20% of women, that is, one in 5 to one in 7 women have at least one tubed breast. The problem is that the disorder is often not recognized even by doctors and thus not treated properly. How is this disorder in breast growth treated? “The treatment is surgical and requires specialized techniques to restore the shape and size of the breasts. The surgery involves releasing the ring that limits the breast base and then redistributing the breast parexemma to obtain a normal shape. If the breast is smaller than normal a silicone insert is also used to increase the size. Finally, if the nipple is larger than normal, we reduce its size to normal,” concludes Mr. Zambakos.
