Tourism: Crete gave a “fight” to attract tourists in Romania and Denmark

Or prepare for the summer season. It has been the main source of revenue for years. This year’s messages are highly optimistic… In order to promote Crete as an ideal tourist destination throughout the year, the Region of Crete was found in Romania and Denmark in order to participate in the Choose Greece and Greek Tourism Workshops, respectively. In Romania, WorkShop was held in downtown Bucharest, at the Le Chateau event site, while in Denmark, Copenhagen, it was hosted at Scandic Falconer. During the Workshops, the Region of Crete held professional meetings (B2B) with travel offices of Romania and Denmark such as Parallela 45, Tez Tour Romania, Spies, Svanejser etc., which were informed of its news of destination, while both WorkShops presented Crete to all participants. According to Tourism Director Nikos Alexakis, Romania’s tourist market is one of the fastest growing for Crete, with significant rates of growth in arrivals in 2023 (65.5% increase compared to 2022, reaching 125,000 arrivals), but also with significant prospects for an increase in this year’s season, considering that only for Heraklion Airport have air seats increased by 38.6%. Romanians love Crete and this was evident both in the professional turnout and in their comments on the island. As far as Denmark is concerned, the country has been a stable market for Crete for many years, with Danes prefering mostly Western Crete and the rest of the island’s destinations. The aim of the Region, as noted by the director of the Tourism Department of Rethymnon George-Nikolao Pantazis, is the Scandinavians, and consequently the Danes, to discover the beauties of all of Crete. From interaction with the agents, it emerged that their clients prefer to discover the beauties of a place, rather than stay within the hotels. For his part, Deputy Regional Tourism Commissioner Kyriakos Kotsoglou said about the district’s presence in Denmark and Romania: “Double, parallel exit for the Region of Crete in Copenhagen and Bucharest respectively, with the aim of maintaining and strengthening two markets that are top targets for the Region of Crete, closing in the first quarter of our tourist promotion. For example, Denmark remains stable in the first west of the Western Crete markets with rates above 11% in total, while Romania was the first market to increase visitors for 2023 compared to 2022, with over 50,000 arrivals increasing in absolute numbers. We will continue for the next period with Kuwait, Cairo and of course Dubai and ATM (tourist exhibition) because, as is known, “Crete is Everywhere”.
