To be extended the mandatory application of the digital working card to the retail trade

Prior to extending its compulsory application the Ministry of Labour is directed, according to secure information from newssit.gr. It is recalled that the implementation of the digital working card in the retail trade (except supermarkets where it has been normally applied already since the previous summer) has started since 1 January 2024, but it has been tested, in the sense that a three-month period of grace has been given to retailers. This means that for the period January – March 2024, no fines are imposed in the event of an infringement. On the basis of a ministerial decision, this trial period shall expire on 31 March 2024 and from 1 April 2024, the application of the digital work card shall become compulsory, in the sense that any infringement of the relevant framework shall be punished under the prescribed fine. The time mark of 1 April 2024 is expected, according to the same sources, to be moved, but without locking the period of movement. However, market players express their reservations in the newssit.gr about the possibility of extending for example for a month, i.e. until 1 May, as this would bring to a temporal coincidence in the Great Week with the compulsory application of the digital card, which would make it difficult for retailers to operate due to intense activity during this period.
