Thessaloniki: The students of French Schools on the road to Paris 2024

The French schools from Greece and Turkey were found in and visited the Olympic Museum of the city… A few months before the opening of the Olympic and Paralympic Games “Paris 2024” the Olympic Museum of Thessaloniki in collaboration with the Consulate General of France and the French School of Thessaloniki welcomed the students of the Greek-French School “Eugeni Delacroix” of Athens, the French School “Pierre Loti” of Constantinople and the French School of Thessaloniki. Students take part in a peculiar relay starting in Athens and ending Paris, participating in a programme of the Association for French Education abroad (AEFE), under the supervision of the French Ministry of Education, entitled “Genia 2024”. In total, 12 French schools in Europe and more than 300 students will perform a 4,000 km relay. The flag of the French schools began from the birthplace of the Olympic Games, Greece, to travel to Paris, passing through Sofia, Bucharest, Belgrade, Budapest, Vienna, Prague, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Amsterdam and Brussels. First station Thessaloniki, where the students of the schools of Athens and Constantinople handed over the relay flag to those of Thessaloniki, who in turn will give it to the students of the French school “Victor Ugo” of Sofia, on Friday, March 22nd. The surrender-receiving ceremony took place at the Olympic Museum of Thessaloniki in the presence of the Consul General of France, Jean-Luc Lavaud, the Consul General of Turkey, Serkan Gedik, the Political Councilman of the Embassy of Canada, Walter Bernieck and the Honorary Consul, Pantelis Petmezas. The Director and CEO of the Olympic Museum of Thessaloniki, Dr. Kyriaki Odatzis welcomed officials, teachers and students, pointing out in her greeting that this is an excellent initiative that promotes Olympic ideals. The Consul General of France, Mr Lavaud, pointed out how fortunate the students involved in such an action are after attending French schools the year Paris welcomes the Olympics. Both Mr. Gedik and Mr. Bernieck expressed their greeting while their school members expressed both the Director of the French School of Thessaloniki, Alain Hardy and the Deputy Director of the Greek-French School of Eugenios Delacroix, Nicolas Mineur. The event was attended by the Mayor of Thessaloniki Stelios Angeloudis. Earlier the students participated in sports activities at the university gym of AUTH and were guided to the permanent exhibition of the museum “Olympic Games”.
