Thessaloniki: Stelios Angeloudis deal with the PPA for 234 new parking spaces in the port

The 234 new parking spaces will be formed in the area of Gate 6 at the port at . Its agreement with the administration of the OLTH has been finalised… Two hundred and thirty-four new parking spaces are created by the Port Authority of Thessaloniki to serve the needs of parking residents and visitors of the city, as a counterbalance to the works of Flyover and the reconstruction of Freedom Square by the municipality of Thessaloniki. The work of Freedom Square and the construction of a Memorial Park for Holocaust Victims will be auctioned over the next few days as stated by Mayor of Thessaloniki, Stelios Angeloudis, at a meeting he had in the morning with the executive president of OTH, Athanasios Liago. And since the start of the work will close the existing open parking lot permanently, Mr. Angeloudis took the initiative to find parking spaces in the harbour area, within walking distance from the square. The 234 new positions will be formed in Gate 6 area at the port, receiving the necessary approval from the Ministry of Shipping. The first 50 seats will be ready by the end of April and the remaining 184 by the end of May. “It was an organized effort to find the parking spaces in the heart of the city,” said Mr Angeloudis thanking the administration of the OTH for the immediate response. “There are problems since the construction of Flyover, where we now need many parking spaces in the center, but also from the beginning of the work at Freedom Square in the coming months,” the mayor completed. For his part, Mr. Liagos added that “cooperation with the municipality of Thessaloniki is at an excellent level. The PPA with a strong sense of responsibility responded immediately, realizing that there is additional traffic in the city to relieve residents and visitors. We believe that the new positions will decongest part of the problem that exists right now.” Angeloudis asked about the progress of Flyover stood at the basic request of the municipality which was to strengthen street policing and added that the municipal authority expects funding for the implementation of the night waste collection. He stressed that within the next ten days the consultation on loading and unloading hours will be completed and then the new regulation will come to the city council. Finally, the mayor congratulated the OTH administration on increasing the number of cruise ships arriving in the city. “The cruise is an offer to the city. We arrived today from the very small number of past to be ready for Thessaloniki to exceed 80 cruise ships,” he said.
