Theodorakis for the three years of the River: I’m proud of every day

“I’m proud of every day, for every word, for every action. And mostly I’m proud of all of them…
together we fight to change it all without tearing down the country”. With these words in social media “celebrates” Stavros Theodorakis today’s birthday of the River.
“The idea is not only mine. Every morning, every night, the second sentence that they say people I meet is “what do we do?”. All in a deadlock. Even the ones who have decided what they will vote, after two – three words, ask, “have another solution?”.
(…) In the last few years, they call me often students in schools. Talk to them about life “out there”. In Thessaloniki, in Rhodes, in the Pigeon, in Nea Ionia, in Porto Rafti. Discuss. Well, I am telling you that they have it all figured out. The mistakes of their fathers, the mistakes of all of us. We think the best interest for the team, the house, the party and not the public interest.
(…) You know the numbers of unemployment. And especially of young people. The quick sloppy solutions they destroyed a lot of lives. Families tumble into poverty. Social structures that supported the weak, closing. By the wastage we had in one fell swoop in a cheap way.
(…) Those who led the country to the current impasse can’t – seemed!- to give it a new momentum. Who to trust? Until yesterday lived only for a favor. The kickbacks became a synonym of the policy. Some participated, some did not react. Let’s do well on the edge. Unfortunately, they can’t save us and those who are slaves to theories of the 19th century. They can’t, even today repeat that Greece will be saved if… return to the past. So that’s why we decided to do “THE RIVER”. What we’ve decided? People with the same questions. Students, intellectuals, economists, workers, artists, the unemployed, traders, doctors, architects. A team that has brains and brawn – the power of logic and δίκιου.
(…) It’s not easy, I know, to change habits. But there is no other way to change life. Good morning well and I hope to meet. It’s worth a try”.
With these words began the River on the 26th of February ‘14. See here all our founding declaration. Today, three years later, I’m proud of every day, for every word, for every action. And mostly I’m proud of all of them that together we fight to change it all without tearing down the country
