Alessandro Zanardi in the racing cockpit.
From 14 – 16 October, the factory driver of the BMW and Ambassador of the Brand BMW will run in the final of the Italian Championship GT 2016 at Mugello in Italy. The Zanardi will drive a BMW M6 GT3 prepared the BMW Team Italia with the ROAL Motorsport and modified the BMW Motorsport.
The last racing appearance of the Zanardi was in the “Spa 24 Hours” in July 2015, where he shared the cockpit of a BMW Z4 GT3 with Timo Glock and Bruno Spengler. After the race, the Italian focused on the preparation for the Paralympic Games in Rio. And with great success: just two weeks ago, in mid-September, Zanardi won two gold and a silver medal.
Now, the Zanardi, BMW Motorsport and ROAL Motorsport unite again their strength on the race track – in a special project. It will be the first time that the Zanardi will race for BMW M6 GT3, a successor of the BMW Z4 GT3, which is located in the heart of the racing action from the beginning of the season.
BMW Motorsport has many years of experience in the conversion field model BMW for the needs of the Zanardi, and at this time, the engineers involved in the adaptation of the BMW M6 GT3 which will run in Mugello with the ROAL Motorsport.
The participation of the Zanardi in the final of the Italian championship GT will mark the celebration of a triple anniversary: just one week later, i.e. on 23 October, the factory driver of the BMW will celebrate his 50th birthday. In addition, the BMW Italy celebrates 50 years, while 100 years will be completed since the establishment of BMW.”I always say that my life is an endless privilege as I have the ability to do so many things, and this year’s season is a classic example,” said o Zanardi. “The preparation for Rio de Janeiro, the coming of the 50ών my birthday, I can not only run competitively but to also win so many times is something extraordinary”.

Ever since I saw the gorgeous BMW M6 GT3 in the shop in Munich, I had a dream to drive. And now BMW offers me the possibility to realize the dream and indeed one of my favorite circuit, Mugello. I would like to thank all those who worked on this project in Munich, the BMW Italy who gave me this opportunity and also all the people of the Italian Championship GT, which with welcome in the racing arena.
