The Navy procures Aster 30 missiles: What Their Advantages

With the powerful Aster 30 he is to be armored by putting a great weapon in his quiver. These Aster 30 rockets that are on the French frigate Alsace in the Gulf of Aden have successfully faced the Huthi ballistic missiles which leaves the Navy executives completely satisfied. As it is about the missiles, which will be in the arsenal of the Belharra frigates, which the Greek Fleet has acquired since next year. While French crews will be the ones that are to train Officers and Petty Officers in weapon systems, with which FDI frigates (Belharra) will be equipped. The acquisition of operational experience in the use of Aster 30 by the Marine Nationale Executives is now considered to be valuable, as it will soon be transmitted to the Greek crews, which will gradually receive the new frigates with the first ‘CIM’ in the first months of 2025. According to the first information, targets of the three Aster 30 were three anti-shipping domestic ballistic missiles “ASIF”. According to Western sources, it is a rocket built with Iranian know-how as a copy of “KHALIJ FARS”. Equipped with an electro-visual system and an infrared detector has the potential for precision shocks. With Iranians talking about testing the rocket in 2013 with an 8-meter accuracy hit on a moving target. With a range of 400 km, a headweight of 500 kg and a speed of 3 Mach – according to its manufacturers – shows in any case that it is a very difficult target. Consequently, the shooting down of three corresponding missile capabilities demonstrates the accuracy of the Aster 30. The nearly simultaneous destruction of the Huthi anti-shipping ballistic missiles by Aster 30 and at a fairly long distance from the Marine Nationale frigate confirms what the European interest manufacturer MBDA supports, on the possibility of shooting down high-impact targets using a single rocket. And while in cases of using other corresponding potential Western weapons, as a double rocket shot is required for absolute success in one target, i.e. simultaneous launch of two missiles, Aster 30 are described as “one shot, one kill” rocket. Essentially, Aster 30 are high value strategic weapons with high anti-ballistic capabilities, which can make a difference in the modern field of operations. This is the first time Aster 30 has been used in real operations, as until now they had only been tested by MBDA but also during the great NATO multinational exercise “FORMIDABLE SHIELD 2021” in a marine area off Scotland. Where the French frigate “FORBIN” launched a single ASTER 30 and destroyed a target ballistic missile analogue, which had developed a speed 2.4 Mach near sea level. With a weight of just 450 kg and a length of 4.9 meters, ASTER 30 is perhaps the most effective global anti-aircraft missile in the western arsenal. It develops the terrifying speed of 4.5 Mach, while its head is activated almost directly from the moment of launch. Missile capable of maneuvering up to 90 degrees. Thanks to the active guidance sensor it has the ability to “lock” any kind of target even those who move with constant maneuvers and speeds of many Mach. The three Greek Belharra will have a total of 96 ASTER 30, which will even cooperate with the leading SEA FIRE radar. By Kostas Sarika / Source: onalert.gr
