The Municipality of Athens cancelled the planned concert for Israel

He decided to postpone the concert for where it was scheduled to take place on 29 April 2024 at the Olympia Theatre. Specifically, the Municipality of Athens during the city council decided to cancel the concert, which had been decided by former mayor Costas Bakoyannis and placed under the auspices of the Israeli embassy. The relevant communication is as follows: The postponement of the scheduled April 29 concert of the musical ensembles of the Cultural, Sports and Youth Organization of the Municipality of Athens (OPANDA) at the Olympia Theatre, is recommended by the Mayor of Athens, Harry Duke at the Board of Directors of the Organization. The concert event had been decided in May 2023 by the previous OPANDA administration and had been placed under the auspices of the Israeli embassy. Taking into account the dramatic developments in the Middle East region, the decision of the Municipality’s Music Workers’ Association (“in the event of the concert being held, the conditions may not be safe for both the coefficients and for the public”) and the concerns expressed at the last meeting of the city council, it is considered that the concert of the OPNDA musical ensembles should be postponed for security reasons.
