The excavations for the works of the Ionian Road has brought to light a treasure!

Important findings came to light in the αρχαιολογηικής hoe because of the construction of the Ionian Road, the place of Κομπότι in …
Συκούλα Acarnania. The working group of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Arta revealed the remains of an ancient, unknown so far, πολίσματος.
After locating the surface of antiquities conducted a rescue excavation, which lasted from November 2013 until May 2015, which were revealed sequentially, and at different points -depending on the course of the work-, eight buildings along the southern slope of the hill of Prophet Elias.
The working group on the promotion of these important findings, consisted of the Head of the Inspectorate of Antiquities – dr archaeologist Varvara Papadopoulou, the division Chief – dr. archaeologist Sotiris Thessalonikio and the archaeologists excavators Farming Kingdom, Andromache Μπαλαδήμα and John Κωτσοκώστα,
In particular, in an area of a length of approximately 150 m. identified and investigated four residential complexes, consisting –apart from one case– by buildings of small dimensions, built from regional materials, and surviving to the height of the foundation.
The existence of large storage jars (one intact in place and numerous fragments) and the identification of a winepress for the must-making of a wine indicate the agricultural and manufacturing character of the plant. Of particular interest is the fact that the buildings identified in a lot of distance between them, which means that it’s not built as a whole but more as autonomous units.
“The excavation gives out the picture of a settlement consisting of laboratory facilities and houses, the inhabitants of which were engaged in the exploitation of the nearby lowland areas. The movable finds, they have a big range of time, starting from the 5th century. e.X. and reaching up to the 3rd century. m.X. Yes, a rare δακτυλιόσχημος αρύβαλλος that had been placed as offerings in πιθοταφή raises human presence in the area in the late Archaic period.
The investigation could not be completed due to the construction needs of the highway (I.The.), however there is enough evidence to establish the existence of an unknown from other sources of a settlement in a privileged position, with the rear protected from their βορεινούς winds thanks to the slopes of the hill and the southeastern part of the valley of Arachthos directly accessible.
The findings of this survival of research we think should be combined and the ceramic kiln of the late classical/hellenistic period that was located at a distance of about half a km. to the south-east”, are characteristics of dr. B’s. Papadopoulou, and C. Κωτσοκώστας.
“An important parameter for the evaluation of findings is the natural terrain of the area, which provides a smoother passage from the region of Arta in Akarnania, and in fact over time, the same path will follow the existing Highway and the construction of Ionia Odos.
It is reasonable that the passage that was in use already from the ancient times and along had been developed in the specific location of a pole in the wider area of Amvrakia. Possibly a large part of the village remains buried in this area, is adding two archaeologists.
