Tempi: First reactions to the publication of the “Step” to alter the stationmaster’s dialogues on fatal night

The reaction of the government and the Greek Police prompted the publication of the newspaper “The Step of Sunday” regarding the tragedy in Tempes. The newspaper article mentions a distortion of stationmaster’s conversations on the fatal night. Statement by the Deputy Minister with the Prime Minister and Government Representative, Paul Marinakis: Today’s headline paper “is a journalistic spot in its historical course, as it highlights conspiracy scenarios surrounding the causes of the Tempes tragedy, which hurts all Greeks. One would expect an approved publication not to cultivate unsistakable theories about “mandaisere” in order to show, supposedly, the role of the human factor in the tragic accident. Because this role is, unfortunately, obvious and has been demonstrated by all the elements so far. Together, of course, in a series of other aspects, which justice is investigating. After all, if you read the report carefully, you realize that the newspaper itself actually admits not only that there was no attempt to cover up, as the misleading title suggests. But that, on the contrary, the Directorate for Criminal Investigation of the Hellenic Police has fully forwarded the whole of the OSE’s audio recordings to the investigative authorities to conduct their investigation of the truth effectively. At such times everyone is required to respect truth, honesty in mourning, and trust in independent Justice. They have no place of conspiracy theories, poisonous rumors and easy impressions. And in this effort the media also have a serious responsibility.
