Student electrocuted at a school in Patras: “Blacken my hand”

Seventeen-year-old suffered from bare wire inside his school in Patras on Wednesday (27.03.24). 17-year-old Elias spoke to Live News and described what he lived in Demenico High School where he attends, realizing he was lucky in his misfortune. Shortly before schooling, the 17-year-old with two of his friends began to descend the ladder towards the entrance. Suddenly the power from a lamp’s bare wire struck him in the hand and as it was natural, the school was upset. “About 12:30 a.m. in school, I went down the stairs to go to the yard and there was a lamp and it was a bare cable and as I was coming down I touched it and the power went out,” he said. “After two minutes I went down to the courtyard, had my hand blackened, had numbed to the leg and strained from the shock,” he stressed. “I didn’t feel any dizziness, only my hand was in a lot of pain and I jumped the steps and I wasn’t held back,” he commented. The student was conscious, but he was in shock. His mother was notified and the 17-year-old was taken to hospital. “I went to St.Andras, to hospital with my mother and because she wasn’t writing, we went to Rio by ambulance,” said the student. “He touched his hand on the wall” A wire naked coming out of a hole in the wall there was bolted light, exit light, those with the battery. He had removed the light, the cable was naked on the wall. He laid his hand on the wall when they were all coming down the ladder together,” said the 17-year-old’s father. “This school complex is a relatively new school and all necessary work has been done at all facilities, including electrical ones, while early this morning the Municipality’s services went to school to restore the harm,” said Deputy Mayor of Education of the municipality of Patras, Katerina Simou. Strangers destroyed the safety lamp. The school check showed that the security light was destroyed by strangers and apparently not repaired. “The safety lamp, which works when there is a power outage, broke the school’s time of operation. The question is how exactly the safety lamp was broken,” added Mrs. Simu. “It was up to the shoulder, his palm had blackened and he was afraid because he closed his fingers and opened himself. He did not touch metal fortunately, he did not touch bars and we are lucky,” said the child’s father. The competent workshops of the municipality repaired the lamp, with technicians expressing doubts about how the accident took place. “The incident concerns a safety lamp, which was placed on the premises of the stairwell on the basis of technical specifications from the construction of the school and at a height that cannot come into contact with a human, without making an effort and using a ladder. And as we were informed in the lamp there was vandalism, with the well-known results,” said the directorate of auto epistaxis of the municipality of Patras. The 17-year-old, however, points out that he did not try to catch the naked wire, but this, as he says, touched him accidentally, as he passed through the spot. After hours of agony the student returned home healthy and in the morning he went normally to his school. “He could touch another child because they all went down the stairs together, have contact with each other and hit them all. The principal came to the hospital, said he had informed the municipality. Since he is well, you get over it,” said the child’s father. Municipal technicians tested the school as a whole and lit a green light for the continuation of the courses, with the 17-year-old who told us his adventure, trying to leave behind what happened to him. “My palm found there and blackened my hand” 17 – year – old Elijah explained what happened: “I was schooling at the time and there was a vandalism in the lamp. My palm found there and blackened my hand. I saw it hanging two days there. I’m not sure when it happened. The light was definitely broken. I was with a friend and I was coming down at that time,” he said.
