Sri Lankan authorities, pending the confirmation from the committee of the Guinness book of world records.
With a height of 73 meters, made of steel tree -the construction of which cost $ 80,000 (76.000 euro)- is decorated with 600,000 lights while at the top stands a shining star six pack.
The tree is located in the capital of the island country, Colombo, is the tallest at 18 feet from that which was staged in the chinese city of Guangzhou last year, breaking -unofficially for now – the relevant record.

However, the cost of construction of the tree caused the reactions, especially by the side of the Catholic Church, which was a waste of money that could have been allocated for the relief of the poorest families.
In response to the criticism, the prime minister Ρανίλ Γουικρεμεσίνγκε insisted that the funds for the construction of the christmas tree came from private donations.
