fell off a bridge in, with at least 45 people killed. An 8-year-old boy is hospitalized in critical condition. According to the transport ministry, the bus had departed Botswana bound for Moria (at the northeast end of South Africa). “The driver apparently lost control of his vehicle,” says the announcement, resulting in the bus crashing from a height of 50 metres and rolling in flames. The bus estimated that a total of 46 people, including the driver, were on board according to the same source. The victim identification process is difficult, as many bodies are charred. The accident occurred on a bridge connecting two hills in the Mamatlacala area, about 300 km away from Johannesburg. Transport Minister Sindisiu Chikunga, who visited the tragedy site, pledged a thorough investigation into the causes of the accident. Although South Africa has one of the most developed road networks on the African continent, it mourns thousands of traffic victims each year. Just a few hours before the long-dead car accident, South African president Cyril Ramafosa appealed to his fellow countrymen, in view of Catholic Easter, to do everything they can to prevent victims from mourning on asphalt.
