Retail: 8.9% decreased sales volume in January 2024

A 8.9% decrease in sales recorded in the country in January 2024, as sales moved downward across all individual categories of stores. According to the Greek Statistical Authority (ELSTAT), the general volume index (turnover at fixed prices) in the retail trade showed a decrease of 8.9% in January 2024 compared to the corresponding index in January 2023, compared to the corresponding index in December 2023 showed a decrease of 22.4%. The seasonally corrected general index was reduced by 5.8% in January 2024 compared to the corresponding December 2023 index. At the same time, the general turnover index (turnover at current prices) decreased 2.3% in January 2024 compared to the corresponding January 2023 index, compared with the corresponding December 2023 index decreased by 24.1%. The seasonally corrected general index was reduced by 5.3% in January 2024 compared to the corresponding December 2023 index. In particular, the turnover was reduced to: Department stores (21.3%), Furniture – Electrical goods – Household equipment (11.3%), Pharmaceuticals – Cosmetics (7.3%), Large food stores (6.7%), Clothing – Footwear (6.5%), Books – Paperware – Other items (5.1%), Food- Drinks-Capno (4.5%), Fuels and car lubricants (0.2%).
