Red the waters of the Thermaikos gulf due to red tide

Red ran the waters of Thermaikos Gulf in Thessaloniki, as well as, has, again, the appearance of the phenomenon of “red tide”.
The phenomenon results from the rapid growth of one-celled photosynthetic organisms that are classified in the phytoplankton, it creates a huge reddish stain in the water and is causing a strong stench.
“The red tide showed up earlier this year due to the weather conditions and the high temperatures. Will keep a week to 10 days. Can not be treated, will take its course,” said on SUNDAY the professor of the department of Chemistry of Environment of the ARISTOTLE university of thessaloniki, Konstantinos Φυτιάνος.
As reported by the responsible scientists, the phenomenon of red tide is displayed for many years in the Thermaikos Gulf, usually two times a year. In addition to the strong odor and the peculiar tint of the water, the phenomenon has economic consequences in the primary sector, such as the catches.
